    UA Board of Regents to hold special meeting, public testimony October 28

    The University of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Board of Regents will hold a special board meeting 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, October 28. Statewide audio conference public testimony will be held later that day, from 4-5 p.m. Call 1-866-726-0757 to join the queue for testimony.

    A 2017 University of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ television and radio campaign was revamped with the goal of supporting the UAA, UAF and UAS student recruitment efforts as well as to reassure ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµns that despite a long and exhausting budget battle, and the uncertainties created by restructuring discussions, all three universities, and all rural campuses, were open and accepting students.

    Rural Student Services at the University of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Fairbanks will kick off its 50th anniversary with a brunch celebration on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Gathering Room in the Brooks Building. The event, which is open to the public, will include comments from some of the original advocates for the program, which was formerly known as Student Orientation Services, as well as university leaders and past students.

    The Juneau Economic Development Council is pleased to join the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State Committee for Research (SCoR) in encouraging nominations for the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Innovators Hall of Fame. The ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ State Committee for Research (SCoR) created the ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Innovators Hall of Fame in 2014 to celebrate and honor outstanding individuals who put ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ on the map as leaders in innovation and to contribute to ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ's growing culture of innovation.

  • After 18 years, the UA College Savings Plan launches new brand

    The UA College Savings Plan announced that it is changing its name to ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ 529 as of October 15, 2019. The ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ-based education savings plan is offered by the Education Trust of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ. After 2017 tax reform expanded the use of 529 plans, the Education Trust of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ determined the need for a name and a brand that better represents the products and services it provides.

    Since 2017, the University of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ has proudly supported Indigenous Peoples' Day with culturally relevant events, incorporating elements of the Indigenous history of place, culture and language associated with their regions. The unanimous support for this special day acknowledges the contributions of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Native people and acknowledges how Indigenous knowledge has enhanced, and will continue to influence, educational opportunities provided across the UA system.

    UA Community, In today's video message, President Johnsen reviews the Board of Regents' discussion with the NWCCU and the actions the Board took at its meeting on Monday. He reflects on his role in how UA unity, so prevalent during the budget debate, has now fractured, and, more so, he addresses the lessons he has learned as a result. He commits to an inclusive process moving forward, and calls on the university community to work together on the challenges ahead, and asks for your help to meet those challenges.

  • UA Board of Regents ceases consideration of single accreditation and suspends system-wide academic program reviews

    In an emergency meeting today, the University of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Board of Regents voted to modify two previous decisions made when it was facing a state funding crisis. The first, by a vote of 9-2, was to cease consideration of a single accreditation until after the University of ÃÛÌÒÊÓÆµ Fairbanks secures its institutional accreditation in 2021. If the board chooses to actively consider single accreditation in the future, it will direct the president to conduct an independent cost benefit analysis and clearly examine accreditation issues. In the second action, by a vote of 9-1, the board suspended the systemwide expedited academic program review process until the Board has the time to consult with chancellors and the president on a path forward.
